We have developed a multi-phase project plan template. Within those phases are as many steps as needed to complete a specific project. No matter what your project is, you can apply these phases.
Let's dig in.
Phase 1 | demo / excavation / concrete -> take out anything that needs to go, dig holes for any concrete and / or footings, pour your concrete
Phase 2 | framing / building envelope -> whether you are building an addition, moving a window or door, even just including a niche in a shower - this is when you get all the framing done; make sure your building envelope is tightly sealed - close in your new project with windows or doors
Phase 3 | mechanical rough-ins / hvac, plumbing, electrical -> moving a heat duct? do that here. running new electrical? do that here. moving plumbing or updating valves? do that here. also, set tub and shower bases - those are part of the rough-in stage, too.
Phase 4 | insulation / drywall -> make it warm and cozy, then board it!
Phase 5 | interior finishing / paint, flooring, tile, doors, trim, lighting -> now your vision is starting to come together; all those decisions you made in the beginning are starting to show up
Phase 6 | kitchen finishing / cabinets, counters, appliances, backsplash -> only relevant if you are doing a kitchen renovation; now is the time to put your pieces together. Install the cabinets, set the counters and hook up the sink and faucets. Last thing to go in is appliances. Ready to cook!
Phase 7 | bathroom finishing / faucets, vanity, toilet -> only relevant if you are doing a bathroom renovation; your bathroom might even look like it's close to be done if you've incorporated tile into your design in the shower / tub area, but this is when the rubber hits the road… errr water connects with plumbing. Put your vanity in place, hook up the faucets, set the toilet, and mount the towel bars.
Phase 8 | exterior finishing -> get your permanent door hardware on, siding, decking, painting / staining. do it now!
